What a day. Our housekeeper ended up calling in sick. So I had to get up for no reason. Oh well. I got my entry done for Erika’s Circle Journal done so it wasn’t a total waste.
After finally getting the girls to tidy their rooms we hit Walmart and Dick’s to gather everything Jackie needs for Young Women’s Camp. That added up to a nice chunk of change. The worst part is that I’m sure we had almost all of it up in the attic. I just hate going through the in law’s room to get to it.
Then while I was cooking dinner, the girls were cleaning out the van, Erica comes in screaming. Eric quickly rushes to her and I hear him asking Jackie what happened and where did the baby get hit. I finally get there and she’s got blood on her arm. Weird I don’t see a cut. And then Daddy finds the source. On the top of her head was an inch long cut all the way down to her scalp!
So me, who handles those kinds of situations so well, starts running around in circles in the kitchen and finally decides an ice pack might be a good idea. That’s always a good idea right? By that time Eric is hollering across the house for me to get in our room and talk to her while he did something. So I’m sitting there talking to her trying not to freak out. We finally establish that yes I do have her insurance card and out the door to the ER we go.
After a five minute wait, which seemed like forever, they called us back to a room. The nurse was so nice. And every single nurse that walked by our room HAD to stop in and oooooh over our curly headed beauty. While Eric and one took her down the hall to get her weight, another one came in and left literally 25 of those big square stickers for her. She was so happy to discover those on her bed when she got back. There were kitties, horses, puppies, Shrek and something else. Those kept her occupied for quite some time.
The doctor finally came in to see her about 15 minutes later. Looked at her wound and said that they would numb the spot with numbing gel and then staple the wound shut! I thought I was going to lose all my cookies right there!
So after 20 minutes after the numbing gel, in walk the Doctor with 3 nurses and they stapled the wound on my poor baby girl’s head shut. It was by the time he got the second staple in that she started crying. I do have to say the Dr stapled very quickly and it wasn’t long before Erica was in her Daddy’s arms and within 30 seconds just fine. Of course by this time I was a wreck and the Doctor had to soothe me more than her. Assured me she was okay, that he was very fast, and look she was already calmed down!
I figure all in all we were at the ER for maybe an hour and 15 minutes? It wasn’t too bad. We go back in 7 to 10 days to have the staples removed. Of course I am extremely on edge that she’s going to fall, some one’s going to accidentally bump her head, etc. Way too much on edge. I’ve even gotten after Eric a few times! And he is the last person I have to tell to be careful.
And the hardest part is I can’t just sit there and pat her head and let her soothe me.
And every once in awhile I look down on that bouncy head of curls and there’s these three metal staples in my daughter’s head! Which of course instantly brings about a wave of nauseousness!
Oh, and how did this all come about? Well instead of obeying me and cleaning their junk out of the car Jackie was hitting the leaves out of a tree with the broom and Erica walked right under it just as the handle was coming down and got whacked right on top of her precious little head. I guess Jackie cried the whole time we were gone. Hopefully this has taught her a great lesson on obedience.
